Untill Tuesday (01/29/2013), a joint search teams are still lookingfor the presence of a fighter F-16 Fighting Falcon U.S Air Force's (USAF) is missing in the waters of the Adriatic Sea near Italy since monday night. The fate of the aircraft and a pilot is not yet know.

The fighter is currently running a training mission from his base in Aviano Air Base in northern Italy, on monday evening Party PR-31 Combat Wing Based at Aviano USAF said contact with the plane was lost on Monday around 20.00 local time.

Search operation conducted jointly by the Italian authorities. Italy paramilitary force, The Carabinieri and the Italian Air Force deployed helicopters to comp the beach area along the 15.2 kilometers between Cervia and Cesenatico in the northwestern part of the Adriatic Sea.

Italian Coast guard also deployed motor boats to search the ocean to within 16 kilometers of coastline. The Coast Guard also contacted three cargo ships passing throught is waters to join search for the missing plane. Teams of divers have also been alerted.

However, the search operation was blocked adverse weather conditions and visibility is limited due to heavy rain mixed with snow in the area. "Visibility was very bad, because in addition to it's late, there was also seet," said Coast Guard Commander Cosimo Nicastro Italy.

It is not know for sure the mission the F-16 was lost time. Parties USAF just mention one only manned aircraft pilots. Other information said the plane was not carrying a weapon while flying that day.

La Presse news agency of the italian added that the missing plane was able to send a distress signal to the Aviano before it lost contact. three similiar aircraft that flew on the same mission arrived safely back at the base.

31st Combat Wing based at Aviano comprises, among others, the two fighter squadrons, each of which operates 21 F-16CM.
